About Terri Funakoshi
Creating nurturing environments where people can thrive is Terri Funakoshi’s lifelong passion.
As Director of Business Development and Operations at YWCA O‘ahu, Terri brings her spirit of
innovation and team-building to an organization dedicated to empowering women. This year,
YWCA O‘ahu is celebrating its milestone 120 th anniversary, and Terri aims to implement
sustainable processes and fresh programmatic ideas in an effort to cultivate future growth at this
historic organization.
Terri is responsible for overseeing several of YWCA O‘ahu departments, including:
 YWCA Kokokahi – An 11-acre waterfront property in Kāne‘ohe known for its camping
and retreat programs.
 The Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership (MCBL) – The only Women’s
Business Center in Hawai‘i with programs for mentoring, entrepreneurship and
leadership development.
 Health & Wellness – A hub of holistic lifestyle resources at YWCA Laniākea in the heart
of downtown Honolulu that includes a gym, wellness events and aquatics classes.
 Member Services – A team providing YWCA Oahu’s 1,000-plus members with
concierge support and customer service.
 Marketing & Communications – Media and events dedicated to sharing YWCA Oahu’s
mission of “eliminating racism, empowering women” with the local community and
Terri’s latest initiative is establishing a satellite office for the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business &
Leadership at YWCA Kokokahi (45-035 Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive). She is working diligently with
Kokokahi and MCBL staff on construction and resourcing for what will be the first and only
Women’s Business Center serving Windward O‘ahu. There is great potential and need to
support Windward entrepreneurs and small businesses in an area that is family-oriented with
thousands of residents eager to explore new scenes in art, food, entertainment, shopping and
As the former director of MCBL, many initiatives flourished under Terri’s guidance. The “Launch
My Business” program and its off-shoots – “Launch My Nonprofit” and “Launch My Agri-
Business” – have provided valuable resources for capital and growth to local entrepreneurs. The
Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance has also trained aspiring women leaders to develop
executive-level skills. Additionally, “Girls Summit” and “Girls Summit Youth” have become
notable programs for mentoring high school students and middle schoolers, respectively.
In 2019, Terri was honored at Pacific Business News’ Business Leadership Hawaii Awards for
her work as a nonprofit leader. She was also Hawaii’s honoree in 2018 as the U.S. Small
Business Advocate for Women in Small Business.
Terri has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality, travel, retail and manufacturing
industries. She is a proud graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa with a bachelor’s
degree from the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. She enjoys giving back
to the community as a volunteer mentor, speaker and instructor.

who have the power to impact their communities in amazing ways.
