Whole Foods coming to Kailua. Is this good or bad?

06-Feb-10 21:11 | Dani Webmaster (administrator)
Workers are preparing for constructions on the corner of  Kailua Road and Hinano Way where a new Whole Foods Market will be built.

Kaneohe Ranch said the the project, which is the third phase of its Kailua Town Center redevelopment, will feature a 32,000-square foot Whole Foods and 8,000 square feet of other retail space. There also will be improvements to parking and pedestrian walkways.

The plans call for construction to be completed in the fall of 2011, with the stores opening soon after.

TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION:  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  What do you think?

It's good that they will be providing us another source of foods produced without chemicals and pesticides, but bad because it would hurt business for our local
    farmers.

While I have nothing personal againt Whole Foods - we as a small and unique community should be fighting to support the local natural foods stores already in place and/or our local farmers markets. Whole Foods is way to expesive anyhow when you're feeding big families as Kailua has. I'm strongly against it and don't see many families shopping there - so it wouldn't survive.
